I drove a friend's 1st gen Eclipse and the friction point was much closer to the bottom of the pedal travel. It made it much easier to drive, but I didn't feel as connected to the vehicle. Bleed clutch lines. Failing master or slave cylinder. Inspect, replace as necessary (and bleed clutch lines afterwards).
